You have heard me say it probably a million times but nothing beats in person education. In this episode, live from Big Sky, MT at the Alabama Dental Association Ski and Learn I got to catch up with my long time buddy from dental school, Dr. Zac Berry and a new friend I met at the meeting Dr. Parrish King. Both doctors are currently practicing in Alabama as associates and we had a great discussion on why they need to own, how they have grown since dental school, and finally a great discussion on dealing with manufacture reps and how to try out new materials.
I would encourage our listeners to check out this meeting. If your interested in a ski trip that has great education and a good excuse for a write off…then this could be for you. Every year around spring break the ALDA heads to Big Sky for this meeting. Its actually my 8th time out of here because of this meeting.

Today’s episode is a short and sweet episode of a recap of a mastermind experience I had recently in Raleigh with some good friends. It’s a fun discussion in one of T-Bone’s basement after some continuing education all day. I say it all the time, but some of the best CE isn’t the CE, but the CE after the CE! It’s a short conversation about the importance of systems, the verbiage we use with patients, and the importance of your team being co-owners in the practice! We got cut off by dinner plans, but this fifteen minutes is just jam paced with goodness and I had to share.
One of my favorite parts is listening to my friend Dipesh talk about his education post dental school. It’s often asked on how do you pay for or can you afford education after dental school because of loans. Well, Dipesh had over half a million dollars in loans when he graduated and kept taking courses…turned out pretty good for him!

Another fun episode from Voices of Dentistry 2018! We got to sit down with Russell Kirk, the man behind the “Business of Dentistry” Podcast. We also had my good buddy Mike Cowan who is the founder and CEO of Awaken 2 Sleep! We had a great discussion on getting into treating airway issues. Mike is a sleep technician so is just full of knowledge and statistics that we don’t hear on the dental side. Dr. Kirk gave us a lot of insight on where he struggled when he first started doing oral appliances and how important it is for us as doctors to be aware of these issues when sedating our patients.
If you’re a new dentist or new associate and your trying to figure out where to put your time and money as far as CE I would really encourage you to looking into airway courses. It’s amazing how much it can impact your practice. When you think about 1/5 people having OSA you realize it’s all over your practices. It may not be the flashiest, but it can save lives and can be profitable as well! Something to think about!
